Konstantin Zuev Receives Humboldt Research Fellowship for Experienced Researchers

Konstantin Zuev, Teaching Assistant Professor of Computing and Mathematical Sciences, has been awarded a Humboldt Research Fellowship for Experienced Researchers. Zuev is a leading researcher in the areas of rare events analysis, network science and quantitative finance. He will join the Institute for Risk and Reliability, Leibniz Universität Hannover, to collaborate with their team on a novel access to reliability analysis by harnessing recent advances in statistical, information and data sciences.

Laura Lewis Wins Goldwater Scholarship

Undergraduate student Laura Lewis has been awarded a 2022 Goldwater Scholarship. The Scholarship Program honoring Senator Barry Goldwater was designed to foster and encourage outstanding students to pursue research careers in the fields of the natural sciences, engineering, and mathematics. Saehui Hwang Receives Thomas J. Watson Fellowship

Saehui Hwang, a senior in electrical engineering, has been selected to receive a Thomas J. Watson Fellowship, a grant that offers graduating seniors the opportunity to pursue academic scholarship abroad. Hwang is one of just 42 students to receive the fellowship this year. The Thomas J. Wat­son Fel­low­ship is a one-year grant for pur­pose­ful, inde­pen­dent explo­ration out­side the Unit­ed States, award­ed to grad­u­at­ing seniors nom­i­nat­ed by one of 41 part­ner insti­tu­tions. Hwang will spend a year abroad working on a series of projects related to the design of wearable devices. Student Team Receives First Place in Regional Student Paper Competition

The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) announced the winners at the 2022 Region VI Student Conference at UC Merced. A Caltech team received the first place award in the team category for the region VI student conference for their paper entitled "Design of a Lunar Architecture for Tree Traversal in Service of Cabled Exploration (LATTICE)."

Professor Bae Awarded Outstanding Referee by Physical Review

H. Jane Bae, Assistant Professor of Aerospace, has been awarded Outstanding Referee by the Physical Review. The Outstanding Referee program was instituted in 2008 to recognize scientists who have been exceptionally helpful in assessing manuscripts for publication in the American Physical Society (APS) journals. By means of the program, APS expresses its appreciation to all referees, whose efforts in peer review not only keep the standards of the journals at a high level, but in many cases also help authors to improve the quality and readability of their articles – even those that are not published by APS.
