Isaac Jushiang Chao is the Recipient of the 2010 Bhansali Prize

Isaac Jushiang Chao, a senior student in Computer Science working with Peter Schröder is the recipient of the 2010 Bhansali Prize. The Bhansali Prize is awarded to an undergraduate student for outstanding research in Computer Science in the current academic year.

Luke Wang Guo Recieves 2010 Henry Ford II Scholar Award

Luke Wang Guo, a junior student in Electrical Engineering with a strong interest in nanotechnology and its applications in the miniaturization of biomedical devices, is the recipient of the 2010 Henry Ford II Scholar Award. The Henry Ford II Scholar Awards are funded under an endowment provided by the Ford Motor Company Fund. The award is made annually to the engineering student with the best academic record at the end of the third year of undergraduate study.

Winners of the 2010 Demetriades - Tsafka - Kokkalis Prizes Announced

The student winners of the 2010 Demetriades - Tsafka - Kokkalis Prizes were announced at a special luncheon with the Demetriades - Tsafka – Kokkalis family. Xiquan Cui received the prize in Biotechnology for his work on biophotonics with Professor Changhuei Yang; Matt Eichenfield received the prize in Nanotechnology for his work in nanomechanics with Professor Oskar Painter; Morgan Putnam received the prize in Entrepreneurship for work on silicon solar cells with Professor Harry Atwater; and Andrew May received the prize in Environmentally Benign Renewable Energy Sources for his work on thermoelectric materials with Professor Sossina Haile and Dr. Jeff Snyder.

Recipient of the 2010 Thomas W. Schmitt Annual Staff Prize

Nils Asplund, Senior Research Engineer in Applied Physics and the Kavli Nanoscience Institute, was one of three recipients of the 2010 Thomas W. Schmitt Annual Staff Prize. The award is presented to staff members whose contributions embody the values and spirit that enables Caltech to achieve excellence in research and education. Nils nominators' state: "Nils really understands what Caltech is all about. He is often called upon to figure out unique and clever solutions to very complex situations. I can always count on Nils to provide a solution that exceeds my expectations, and his ability to improvise has gotten me to think of him as the "MacGyver" of Caltech. 2010 ASCIT Teaching Awards

These awards recognize individuals who inspire and motivate students, are approachable, and present course material effectively and efficiently.

Ares Rosakis is the Recipient of the 2010 Brown Engineering Alumni Medal

Ares J. Rosakis, Division Chair; Theodore von Kármán Professor of Aeronautics and Professor of Mechanical Engineering, is the recipient of the 2010 Brown Engineering Alumni Medal (BEAM). The medal is awarded to distinguished Brown alumni who have established exceptional records of accomplishment in their careers. Professor Rosakis received the medal at a ceremony held in the Brown Alumnae Hall accompanied by his former teacher Rodney J. Clifton, Dean of Brown University School of Engineering, L. Ben Freund, Rosakis' PhD advisor and former Chair of Brown University Division of Engineering, as well as Rosakis' classmate Wei Yang, President of Zhejiang University in China [in photo standing from left to right]. At the same ceremony it was announced that the Division of Engineering at Brown University has been elevated to the School of Engineering at Brown.

Ares Rosakis Receives 2010 Robert Henry Thurston Lecture Award

Ares J. Rosakis, Theodore von Kármán Professor of Aeronautics and Professor of Mechanical Engineering, has been selected to receive the 2010 Robert Henry Thurston Lecture Award from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers "for pioneering contributions to the field of fracture and failure mechanics of microelectronic, engineering and geological materials and structures, spanning a wide range of length scales; and for visionary leadership in promoting interdisciplinary research and education in mechanical engineering."
